Then either way it should be a breeze to show:

A.  That God or god and Santa are equally and simply disprovable.

B.  That therefore God/god (to quote Douglas Adams) vanishes in a puff of logic.  Keep in mind there is no such thing as a babel fish.

How did you know?  I guess it's gotta suck getting bested by a guy who uses crayons.  It's ok, I'll let you borrow them when you're older.

When I've been bested I'll let you know.  For now all that's happened is some jackass keeps repeating tired arguments while not answering any questions directly.

I didn't miss the problem of suffering.  You also didn't miss the mention of free will; you just don't understand it.  As for context, let's keep it simple  - in deference to your mind - since you have said that God is as simple to disprove as Santa - disprove him.

That's a nice self portrait there, Raoul.  "If I only had a brain!"

oooh....buurrrrrrn.

Show how smart you are and disprove God.  What you have said thus far may seem new and/or compelling to you, but it's pretty much standard issue atheist "dang them godheads is dumb" claptrap.

Lol, you posted the clever picture.  If you can't handle the jabs, then put a tampon in it.

Free will doesn't explain the existence of suffering.  Why not just be made impervious to it.  God is omnipotent, right?

Wow, that took a whole two sentences, but I'm sure I lost you after the two syllable word.  Keep following that yellow brick road, Ace, there may be hope for you.  wink

The difference is that the assumptions you trumpet as the foundation of your veritable tour-de-force against god, simply don't exist when you consider God by himself.

But you already knew that.

If God made us impervious to suffering, then we could not excercise our will to suffer, if we were so inclined.

My sarcastic comment pointing out that your jab was not particularly stinging shouldn't indicate that I can't handle it.  But go ahead and keep flattering yourself.  Somebody gotta do it.

As for free will and suffering - actually free will does explain and account for suffering.  As stated - if we were impervious to suffering that would mean preventing us from experiencing a feeling or aspect of living.  Hard to have free will when you prance around limiting what people can experience - suffering included.

Two sentences yes.  Proof no.  I'm sure it constitutes proof to you, but that is because you are so convinced of your own brilliance that you refuse to abandon the same small group of ineffective trite "proofs" that everybody who's taken entry level phil classes has discussed.

If the positive affirmations about losing me with your stellar polysyllabic vocab make you feel all warm and fuzzy then rock on, Skippy.

I'm sure you keep the Jr College chicks riveted while you're serving up latte macchiatos.

Now - while you're amusing, unless you can offer something you have not tried over the last few pages - it's kind of tough to find you interesting anymore.

I'm sure you'll find yourself plenty interesting for both of us, though.

I don't know about everyone else, but I think this thread has served an important purpose.

No one but Quarken could have made an argument that could so thoroughly convince Seabird to re-adopt his faith.

The Atheists sound dumber. And actually are.
The evangelicals, to whatever extent they are victimized by blind faith; are at least aware that they are people of faith. Atheists think they aren't. Thus, dumber.

I don't feel like I'll ever be a true Christian without attaining his level of knowledge and experience.

If the rest of you want to continue on in this pointless pursuit of understanding God, I won't try and discourage you. But I personally don't have the time or will to work at it anymore. Especially since I seem to make nothing but mistake after mistake anyway. What's the point? Guy has made it clear that attaining heaven is nearly impossible for most people.

sad

I don't know if this a sincere crisis of faith, or just an indictment of the supposed 'need' to exhibit an informed and fanatical association with a particular belief system, so I apologize for my cynicism.  The sarcasm and references to inside jokes on this board are often times extremely subtle.

Seabird: if this is something that you are genuinely going through, you have my sympathy.

Don't dwell on the subject in excess, as it will only lead to depression and take away from other (arguably more important) aspects of your life.  There are people who love you and depend on you, and you have people you love and depend on.  That won't change.

The type of person you are is not defined by your association of belief, but by how you chose to live/act/decide based on the beliefs that you hold personally important.  Those things aren't open for interpretation or debate, and they can serve as your foundation.

Listen more than you talk, observe, learn how to look at things from an opposing perspective, and try practicing introspection as opposed to constantly looking for someone else's idea to adopt.

Religous texts are full of important lessons and accumulated wisdom, but they are guides; not instructions.  Read them accordingly.

I really don't know what else to add....

Seabird...  Don't sweat it -- I walked away in 1983.  Hated God, never gonna set foot in a church again.  Told the pastor to stick his Bible, his church, and his god up his A$$.  The way I said it, I'm not sure that he didn't...  But, God had other plans, and in spite of my own issues, He came looking for me.  You can only sit back and hope He does the same for you.

For the rest of the bunch, this isn't about religion.  Religion is dead.

More unsupportable nonsense.  Show where I've whined.  Not where you decided to interpret it that way.

I can't comply with your second sentence since unlike you I have posted no drivel.  As for repeating yourself; you have not had to.  You seem to enjoy it.  Probably because it's your only recourse and you somehow seem to believe repetition makes what you say true.
