Quarken, we are in awe of your higher brain function. With that said, disprove god. (FWIW I'm an atheist for all intents and purposes)

He can't.
He can attempt to turn it around on you and ask you questions in the hope that you don't notice that he isn't even ATTEMPTING to disprove the existence of God.
He can attempt to fool you into thinking that the holy book of this religion or that contains contradictions and that THAT means something, but he cannot explain how books written by men contain proof one way or the other about a deity.
He can talk himself blue in the face trying to convince you that he doesn't have to prove anything, but he cannot explain how it is that he has no burden off proof for his own theory.
In the end, he knows that God can neither be proven nor disproven (either that or he's dumber than he looks), but he figures that all he's really obligated to do to prove his theory (That there is no God) is to throw out verbal garbage about Santa Claus or 6 foot easter bunnies.
The fact is, that he's just another annoying "Rebel without a Clue" from the suburbs that has Christian parents that he has "issues" with; and he is absolutely certain that trying to cram his atheist theory down everyone's throat is a mark of high intellect.
He's also convinced that trying to force his views on everyone he come in contact with is somehow DIFFERENT than what the religious nutters do.

Sorry, I have an actual job. Most adults do.
Anywho, here ya go!
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
~Epicurus
So, the knee jerk response is "free will!"
Not so fast.
1) God could have made humans impervious to suffering, while not curtailing free will.
2) Suffering is not always a result of free will (natural disasters).
Of course, I have brought all this up before, but no one has addressed it. I am sure that will not change in this thread, but it should be an interesting read. ![]()

Hold on Kid...
It's YOUR job to DISPROVE the existence of God.
Perhaps your problem is that you don't quite understand what "Proof" means.
Do you need an explanation?

Everyone back off....
Let me have this one.

Lol, the big guns now, eh?
Don't waste my time by coming here claiming I didn't do what I just did do.
How about you address the argument, Corky?

You haven't made an argument. You're merely put forward a set of rhetorical questions.
Which begs the question; Do you genuinely believe that a set of rhetorical questions constitutes proof, or are you genuinely unaware of what precisely proof IS?

It is now a few minutes before 9:00pm Eastern Savings Time. (GMT -4)
I'll check this thread again between 9:30 & 10:00, before I head to bed; to see if you have decided to discuss this topic in an honest manner.
Frankly, I don't think you have anything more than sophistry and rhetorical games.
But I am entirely ready to have you demonstrate that I am wrong.

It's 10:00.
So far it seems that I'm correct.
When someone calls your bluff and you're faced with the prospect of having to actually REASON instead of simply spraying rhetoric; you suddenly lose your voice.
I'm going to bed. I'll check in on you tomorrow and see if you've found your voice yet.

8:00am Edit:
Well, if he doesn't return by the end of the day TODAY; it will be pretty clear that he doesn't have the courage of his own convictions and arguably will have conceded the argument.

.
Quarken has apparently decided to concede defeat by default.
Buh-Bye. Better luck in your sophomore year.
Clay...
Perhaps you should change the title of this thread to "Quarken Fails". Or maybe even; "Quarken Fails, and runs away in shame."
These clowns are pretty much all the same. Once you cut away the usual thread clutter and leave them exposed, they run away faster than cockroaches scattering after the lights are turned on.
It's because people who do not possess the ability to REASON can only argue by throwing other people's words at you. And that only works when the thread is cluttered enough and moving fast enough that it HIDES what they are doing.
When you isolate them and take away their camouflage, backing them into a corner where they would actually have to THINK instead of just parroting; they get scared of being exposed and run away.

Is that a better title?

LOL, I wasn't going to go THAT far.
I was simply going to guide him into understanding the difference between arguments and proof. I would have LIKED to guide him to understand the difference between Spirituality and Religion, but frankly... There was NO WAY he was going to grasp a concept like that.
An Atheist takes the EXACT same leap of faith that a Theist does; he just does it in the opposite direction.

Does this mean you brought him over? If so, we are in your debt.
I regret that Barney self terminated so early in his visit too. Tough to have a circus without the dancing bear.

Luckily the supply of dancing bears never runs out.
