Why is your motivation so important that an error about it would cause you sorrow?

This thread now explains a lot.

So... who's the um... catcher in the relationship?

It seems to me that if you limit your core principles you can attract more people. For example, if you're group is for small government, personal freedoms and free markets, you cast a wider net and attract more people.

Only if people really want those.  Isn't the problem of the libertarian party (in part) that they don't?

I guess throw (National) "Security" in there and those four sound like things most people want.  Do people not really want these? Am I totally out in right field? WTF do people want?

People are drawn to advocates for their positions.  If you ignore, for instance, defense issues as the libertarians did in the 1970s and 1980s, no sane person will be an enthusiast for putting you in a position of authority on the issue.

So in order to have a lot of political capital you've got to be on one side or the other of an issue. Does this come at the risk of alienating people who are more concerned with core issues?

WTF do people want?

A government that taxes them lightly, if at all, punishes their enemies, protects their friends, and showers them with wealth.  Who wouldn't want that?

Even people who know those desires cannot be met don't stop wanting them.

lol

Everyone seems to want a free lunch.

- Protection : but no foreign wars or conflict
- Low taxes : but lots of government programs
- Good economy : but government regulation of 'shady' and 'suspect' industries/companies

This is all coming together like MC and his partner.

Guy, it has been mentioned that I am enough of a prick that I don't really have to try when I want to read like one, so don't take this question the wrong way.

You do understand that my use of the word "church" was not a references to actual churches, right?

Yup...  I was just tying a point to what was said.  I well understand "church" generic.

Re: The Republicans and the Conservative Movement are a shambles.

Social policies and agendas, based on religous beliefs or even consensus opinion, have no place in Federal Government. ie. Flag burning, stem cells, SSM, abortion, etc.

Stick to foreign policy, security, economics, and encouraging self sufficiency of the states and the citizenry.  Leave the social issues to the people and their respective states.

When did 'conservative' and 'republican' political philosophies become (deservedly) synonimous with social conservativism and Christianity?  Screw that.  Quit trying to tell me how to think and convince me of whats appropriate and what isn't.  Stick to the important issues of running the country.

Pot rules!

How bout a compromise, abortion on demand fine.....but the US government creates non citizen unborn soldiers from the throw aways.  That way, when we go to war, we dont have to hear about how our boys are being killed.  They were already killed, abandoned, and disavowed by Western mothers.
