Don't hope for a better life...

"Don't hope for a better life.  Vote for one."

It is the standout line in a McCain ad.  Whoever put that together is underpaid.

But how in the ID's name is he ever going to convert any democrats? That sentiment pretty much flies in the face of everything they stand for.

I do not agree.

I think the outstanding utility of the line lies in its nonpartisan double entendre.  One of JM's best traits is his biography, but this communicates that in a manner that doesn't involve an explicit recollection of his past service.

I know people who work paid positions in BHO's campaign.  The intra-dem hatred is thick, and they mostly don't seem too wound up about JM, at least not now.  There are many dems looking for an excuse not to vote, or not vote for BHO.

Sorry, Matt - I was being atypically sarcastic. You know; dems are only interested in having the gov't provide for them and that even the act of voting for candidates committed to that cause is too proactive. Meh.

While I tend to have less faith than you in the general public's ability to read that line as anything more than just another slogan, I do agree the message is an effective one and refreshingly simple as well.

Not bad, in a poetic kind of way, but is anybody here actually expecting any mainstream political candidate to deliver much of anything beyond varying degrees of frustration?  Great rhetoric, but without delivery it's just another campaign slogan.

We're hoping for more constructionist judges and perhaps a little leadership on at least ONE of the myriad problems facing us.

To hope for more is taking the long end of a short bet. Or is that short end of a long bet? I can never remember. Either way, it's a bad idea.

I'm not so sure.  A line like that is the kind of change I can believe in.
