So...I think I missed my calling. I laughed for what seemed like damn near an hour while browsing for parts at Lowes plumbing section. Seriously!? Who named these parts?! Sillcock, female adapter, male adapter....male adapter with ball, tube strap
My friend put up with me up until I turned around and commented to the guy looking at the pvc stuff "I saw you checking out those nipples" ![]()
Ok so really my question for friend....How do you vent a utility sink that is being put in a basement.
TIA ![]()

That depends. Is said sink being used in a meth lab, home brewery or distillery?

Sadly, no
Just so I don't have to wash dishes around automotive parts/tool, paintbrushes....things of the like

I've seen vent pipes that literally come right up at the sink, and terminate a couple of feet above it.

But the vent really should be outside. Preferably above people. Which is why they went them up out the roof...

It is a townhouse if it matters any.
Thanks for the responses ![]()

Damn, I thought this would be a thread about how Jez needs someone to lay pipe for her. :mark:
Not that it'd be me or anything.....

Hmm, a townhouse. That probably means you can't go mucking around with the exterior walls or roof, as they would be considered "common areas" of the property.
At the very least, that would normally require specific permission from the HOA.
God damn Seth's avatar is distracting. Suddenly I really need a glass of milk.

Craving a milkshake myself....
Townhouse, huh? guess if you are gonna vent it, it will have to just vent inside...

We'll muck around as we need to. I beleive it is all contained in the (outside) walls of the townhome. I believe there is already one (the expert has gone to bed) and we would connect into that one...does that sound right? The utility sink will pretty much be located below the kitchen sink, in the basement.

If you can get to the vent line, and can tap into it, you should be fine.
Offline
If you are draining to an existing drain, that drain will already be vented. Just plumb it in.

This thread had so much potential...

I was wondering why you needed to vent every sink. I noticed that in CA every damn house had twelve vents in the roof. Must be some freedom of vent law there
I only have one in my domain.

Take a straw and put it in water (or soda). Then put your finger over the top end of the straw and pull the straw out of the water. The water stays in the straw. Now remove your finger. The water comes out. This is why a sink needs to be vented.*
At least that's my basic understanding.

If you start talkng about needing a female to female connector I'm going to lose it.

Let me rephrase, Why does every sink/toilet/tub need its own vent? My home has one big vent tube that goes up through the roof and all the plumbing in the house is on that line one way or another. In CA I noticed that homes had a tube venting out the roof for every single sink tub and harry.

Well, you can tap into a single vent but that's pretty inconvenient in some layouts (single story ranch home, for example). Also, if you use only one vent and it gets clogged it could screw you out of all your sinks.

None of my friends will go to Lowes or HD with me anymore either. I eventually end up walking around with all sorts of stuff and waving the long PVC pipes like a lightsaber while making darth vader sounds.

I feel your pain, Peter...I'll go to lowes / HD with you if you are ever in the area. But be warned I shout phrases like quit grabbing your wood! or where you plan on laying that pipe :mark:

Gas fitting is the same. I used to love asking the female warehouse girl if she had 3/4 in close nipples.
as for the vent, ask a Lowes or wherever if they have a cheater vent. That's the kind of thing you would use if you were putting a sink on an island.

Ah, so that's the correct plumber-ey name for the thing I've seen in basement and garage sink setups.
