Where were you 39 years ago today?

What do you remember?

I was a five year old lil' stinker.  Mom and Dad made me stay up to watch it.  Couldn't make out much on the old B&W tv that was older than I.  Our country needs more days like that.  Sigh...

I remember the later ones, though.

Same here. I was nearly 12 years away.

I was likely hungry, focused on a nipple & wailing on about the mess in my
shorts.

Funny how little has changed all these years.

Re: Where were you 39 years ago today?

I was either in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Vientienne or Saigon.  If it's important, I could dig out my old passport and check.  I was a callow youth of 30 at the time, and loving the fact that I was single, and most of my body parts still functioned.  (all of them except for the right foot, which was permanently put out of commission by that bullet through the sciatic nerve back in '67.)

Yikes.

We have a couple of members here with sciatic issues.
(myself included)

I don't -think- any stemmed from something quite as dramatic.

Not even thought of. My dad was still busy dodging bullets and my mother was half a world away, likely putting needles in someone's vein, or stuck in surgery for the 17th hour.

Re: Where were you 39 years ago today?

My mom was still in junior high school school in North Seattle.

My dad was an Army Lt. at Fort Ord, California.

They hadn't even met yet.

Re: Where were you 39 years ago today?

Yup.  Big point of contention early on in the marriage.  My grandpa, the perpetually drunk yet pleasant Irish cop, HATED my dad for as long as I can remember.

My dad was 31 and my mom was 19 when they got married.  They had me 8 months later.  No, I was not premature.

I was born 2.5 months after the moon landing, actually.  So, yeah, I was alive, in the fully viable clump of cells sense of the word.
