The Olympics. Are you going to watch? Why/Why not?

To laud the host country.  I think not.
We don't need another one.

Re: The Olympics. Are you going to watch? Why/Why not?

Yes, I will watch. I will be back in Canada at the time, but I think the Chinese will do a great job with these Olympics. From my talking to ordinary Chinese citizens, they are fully behind these Games. China has an incredibly long history, and I look forward especially to watching the Opening Ceremonies and seeing the celebration of their culture. The venues are world class, the organization is top notch, and I expect the games will be a smashing success.

Re: The Olympics. Are you going to watch? Why/Why not?

Nope. Don't care. Haven't cared about the Olympics since the Cold War ended. I have a morbid fascination to see if the Western media will rake China over the coals or not, but as for the events themselves, I doubt I'll give it a second thought.

I always watch...  Worth it to see the extent of human endeavor and to hear all the great back stories.  What else is there?  Friends reruns?

I'm going to watch.  I think these Olympics have the potential to be a great moment in  history... and it will all be televised in HD.

The geo-political drama aside, I enjoy watching the non-subjective events.

Surprising.

Re: The Olympics. Are you going to watch? Why/Why not?

I'll watch some.  I'm the caregiver to my elderly aunt, a lovely lady with Masters in Math and Education and a PhD in Psychology, but who sadly has lost her short term memory.  She's always been an avid sports fan. (she grew up in Fargo, ND and St Paul, MN so she really loves winter sports.  Bad timing, but I digress, as is my wont...)

Watching something on the toob that interests her engages her mind and keeps her from the frustration of having the wealth of knowledge and experience that she possesses, and yet being unable to share it because of her profound disability.  And believe me, that's exactly what it is.

Re: The Olympics. Are you going to watch? Why/Why not?

I'll probably only watch the track & field events (as I usually do). Those are what my dad always watches (obviously) and by extension they're the ones I find most interesting.
