I will point to this particular bit, though, because it's on the 2nd page and shouldn't be missed:
In England, Lord Chief Justice Phillips, the country's top judge, has said that sharia law should be incorporated into British law, while the Archbishop of Canterbury described such incorporation as "inevitable."
I consider it a benefit of my particular background that it gives me great insight into how terribly deluded the train of thought that says "It'll never happen here" is.

Exactly what do you believe "it'll never happen here" means? Sharia law incorporated into the COTUS? Legalized honor killings?
Qwinn, linking to a sensational story and then following it up with a vague and cryptic prediction is hardly a way to have an intelligent discussion the subject (whatever that might be).

It's not just a sensational story. It's also an op-ed. I agree with the arguments made in the op-ed, which is why I didn't bother repeating them with what would essentially be dittoes. Do you disagree with something in the editorial aspect ofit? If so, please do share your objections, I'd be interested to hear them.
I will agree to your implied objection - this particular "it can happen here" seems farfetched. I've generally felt that way about a certain other ideology, not really islamism. My fear with islamism is that it's pretty much going to happen everywhere -else-, as it's clearly happening in Britain, and that we'll wind up, as Mark Steyn put it, with "America Alone".
It's certainly more likely to happen everywhere else if even here we give this sort of thing a pass.

The story to which the op-ed is referring is sensational - Avlon says as much.
His opinion is hardly controversial in that this is a sensational story that has not been sensationalized by the MSM, and I agree with his assessment as to why this is.
Yes, we'll defer to Islamic sensibilities up to a point, but my personal belief is that that point will occur at a much, much, much lower threshold than anywhere in Europe.

He's been arrested and accused of murder, no? Everything seems fine to me.

Google "Homaira Rahman". She was a customer and friend of my wife, and one
of the most delightful, interesting, outgoing, friendly, helpful people you could
ever meet.
500 people in the Afghan community showed up for her memorial.

If the motive of the killing had been anti-black racism or homophobia, do you think the simple arrest of the perpetrator would be enough to mollify everyone?
