Heh. I'll have to do before and after shots.
I just took the "before" ride height measurement. Should be 1.4" drop.

I came >this< close to getting vogtland springs before I opted for the shine ones. Let me know if you like the ride.

$1300 in parts.
4 control arms(2 * $90 + 2 * $95)
Springs $190
Bilstein shocks ($265f + $214r)
Strut bar $140
2 front strut bushings ($40)
I've heard great things about Vogtland from people over on Audiworld, not to mention my mechanic and the guy who sold me the stuff.
10 year warranty on the springs
Lifetime on the shocks
It's gonna be $300 to install it all.

Well I did have the "sport" suspension from Audi.... it was actually quite good for a stock suspension.
But yes, I expect this will be *quite* different.

Stay away from the 97. It's a dog.
The 1.8t had 150hp, and the 12v V6 had 165. LAME.
The 98.5 is really the earliest I would get. Well.. I did get one...
As far as the sport suspension, yes it's worth it. It's stiffer and lower than normal. The sport seats are a separate option though, and not many audis were ordered with them. Mine was, and they are superior. They have very good side bolstering and are quite comfortable.
And yes, the sport package came with the 3-spoke wheel, but I'm not even sure they had a sport package as early as 97.

whats the spring rate and lowering height on the Vogtlands?
i was looking into H&R sport springs and blisten sports.
Offline
The lowering is about 1.4" or maybe only 1" since I already had the "sport" suspension from Audi.
I just got the car back though, so the springs haven't settled yet.
As far as the spring rate goes, I have heard that the Vogtlands are stiffer than H&R and Eibach. I'll have to see how they feel over the next couple weeks, while they settle.
So, I'm VERY happy with the effect so far. It's not too harsh, but you definitely know something is different. Much less dive and squat, and flatter through corners. Very good setup, so far.

let me know how you like the Vogs after you break them in.
