Lease penalty is pretty damn harsh

My friend has a 03 G35C 6-speed, which has standard Performance Pkg with Brembo brakes. After years of ownership and numbers of quality problems, not to mentioned G35's infamous brake pad wore. He has to replace brake pads after 6 months, regardless of how he drives. Gonna tell CLers that since they think its the greatest car ever made with "Japanese" reliability.

When we went to Infiniti dealer to ask about how much penalty he has to pay to get out of the lease right now, the sales showed us 10 grand! That is really harsh considered a car that has a residual value as low as 30% after 3 years of ownership.

Can't he just sell it and pay out the balance of the residual?

Re: Lease penalty is pretty damn harsh

Dealers don't want to take any used Infinitis here. I have seen a couple of FXs and G35s on dealer lots. Even my uncle who works at Mercedes Canada has taken 3 02/03 G35 sedans traded in alone, they are crying for these cars to leave the used lot because they are so hard to sell. Its better to just give back to Nissan and forget about it.

Can't sell privately either huh? I wonder why the resale on them is so bad. I haven't priced them, but I wonder how they are doing down here in my neck of the woods. The Q45s and the older I35s aren't doing so hot, but that's to be expected.

I would love to pick up a used M45 in another years for under $20K. That would ROCK!

Re: Lease penalty is pretty damn harsh

It's a lease.  A lease is a contract to use a car for a certain period of time at a certain cost.  If you violate that contract, you pay a penalty.  Sorry, but that's the way it is.  neutral

This is almost as funny as you complaining about your past BMW 318...
