What a relief!

I can finally get back to normal life.   smile

Bush wins, and well beyond the margin of litigation, thank God.

I'm going to enjoy rubbing this in.   big_smile  Then again, I generally take my satisfaction, like we took this election - silently. wink

Re: What a relief!

What about it?

Bush is leading handily with about 150,000 votes - 51% to 48%. A few absentee ballots or whatnot are almost certainly not going to upset that.

I have to laugh. NBC and Fox News Channel have Bush with just 1 electoral vote short of the 270 needed to win, WITHOUT including NM or NV, which are both pretty certain to go to Bush.

Meanwhile over at CNN and CBS....

IT'S PRACTICALLY A DEAD HEAT!! 249 to 242, Bush Kerry!! lol

It really appears the media is too afraid to call this! Either that, or more deviously (and likely as far as I'm concerned), CBS and CNN are going trying to pass off the notion that there is some question about the results, setting things up nicely for any possible [baseless] Dem legal actions.   :thumbdow:

Actually, Bush's projected lead in Ohio is about 136,000 votes.  Meanwhile, there are about 175,000 provision ballots that were cast in Ohio.  There still may be an additional 75,000 votes on top of that which have not yet been counted.  Some people didn't vote until 3:00 a.m.!!!!!

Ah.... Youre referring to the results of Dem tactics, calling disenfranchisement, or intimidation, or whatever? - Polls arent open until 3am unless there's some legal funny business involved. And 175k provisional ballots?? Mhmmm... Sounds like more funny business, but I'm no expert on voter fraud.

Last number I've heard, 100% reporting, is ~145000 votes. How that gets projected to remove 9k votes, Im not sure. At best, one would have to assume that 145k of 250k are going for Kerry to upset the results. That's 58% vs the direct polling results of 48 or 49% - why the big jump?? Provisional ballots tend to be Democratic??

If it becomes Florida 2004 - thank the Dems. This entire situation seems like it was setup for the messiest possible legal situation, and Republicans have no motive to draw this out.

20 electoral votes up for grabs - I guess it's only to be expected.

I have to agree with Packrat's comments - no Dem can complain about the popular vote situation, considering "Klinton" did worse. Bush clearly has the popular vote. If the Dems don't relinquish this, they are dirt.

Re: What a relief!

The problem with provisional ballots is they don't all get counted.  They have to be reviewed and checked for validity.  Only those that should count, will count.  On average <10% of provisional ballots are valid, so using this math, it's pretty much Ohio in the bag for Bush.

Re: What a relief!

Bush is ahead by 4 million or so popular votes this time, so there can't be any whining that he stole the election if he does win the election.

But Ohio is still too close to call, and those EC votes wil be needed.

NPR @ 8:00AM

..stated that Kerry will have to take ~ 90% of the provisional ballots
in Ohio to win. The chances of that happening are slim to none at best.

Yep. That and watching Carrville concede on CNN at 1am was worth it. He said something along the lines of "the Democratic party has to really regroup and refocus, and have really failed". Beautiful.

I've been saying that forever.  The Dems are way too splintered right now.  Too much trying to appeal to every freakin' person bullshit.   :nak:

The fact that "the right man for the office" did even worse than AL GORE against Bush, even after he "fucked up the country", should completely piss off everyone that calls himself a Democrat.

If Bush is to come through here, and it looks like he will, the GOP will have a LOT of power now. They can either get more support with it, or be completely irresponsible and fuck it up.

Re: What a relief!

It looks like its just a matter of doing the math though.  The odds that all of the provisional ballots in OH will be counted and will be cast for the Kerry/Edwards team are just insurmountable.  It is just a matter of time before the harsh reality sinks in.  Hopefully Mr. Kerry will follow up on his promise to go quietly into the night sooner than later.

Re: What a relief!

well there isn't a law that says we need a president elect by Nov 3rd. Kerry shouldn't concede until the votes are recounted, absentee votes and provisional votes accounted for.
maybe in 10 or 15 days.

That sort of thing could stigmatize the entire party for several years.

Re: What a relief!

Unless the margin of victory is less than .25% (which it won't be) there will not be an automated recount and the Dems would be foolish to delay things just because they can't handle the truth.

However, I do agree that we should wait until all the absentee and provs are accounted for.

NOTE: Historically most prov ballots are tossed out because they come from out of state and they are found to be fraudulent or simply invalid.
